Details About Our Goals
Class of 1999 Scholarship Fund
Georgia Tech's mission as a public university includes expanding access to people of all backgrounds by placing the highest value on developing individual talents, regardless of students' financial circumstances. Increasingly, our peer institutions, many of them private, are guaranteeing the education of everyone they admit with generous financial packages that make their costs of attendance extremely attractive. As a result, we are losing some of the best and the brightest from Georgia and beyond because they are receiving significantly greater financial aid from other top-tier institutions. While Georgia Tech is recognized for offering one of the best values in higher education, pursuing such an education still poses a significant financial burden for families. The Institute is committed to providing resources so that every qualified student can attend regardless of their financial circumstances and fully experience all that Georgia Tech has to offer. Approximately a third of Georgia Tech undergraduates have financial needs, and we only have resources to cover less than half of that need. Scholarships help fill the gap and ensure that more outstanding students have the opportunity to earn a Georgia Tech degree, forever altering the trajectories of their lives. Every gift supporting these scholarships for students with low or limited income will transform lives, and if the class collectively raises $100,000, we will endow the Class of 1999 Scholarship Fund in perpetuity.
Double Your Impact With the Scholarship Sprint Challenge
This summer, Georgia Tech launched the Scholarship Sprint Challenge for new donors to support undergraduate scholarships for students with low or limited income. While the Institute is recognized for offering one of the best values in higher education, the pursuit of such an education still poses a significant financial burden for families. We are committed to providing resources so that every student can attend regardless of their financial circumstances and fully experience all that Georgia Tech has to offer. The challenge has been extended through December 31, 2024. Outright gifts from $5,000 to $100,000 or pledges from $25,000 to $100,000 will be matched dollar for dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2 million, and can be designated at College and School levels. The sprint will ensure as much as $4 million is deployed to provide critical support for students in the Class of 2028 and beyond.
Class of 1999 Commemorative Tree and Bench
A vital component of the larger campus efforts involving sustainability, the Commemorative Tree Planting Program coincides with the Institute's Master Plan to more than double the campus' tree canopy coverage, with a goal of 55%. The program enables the Institute to replace lost trees and enhance the character of the campus by providing shade and seasonal color. We will create a Class of 1999 Tree and Bench, with a commemorative plaque, to help further Georgia Tech’s sustainability and campus beautification goals and as a space celebrating the lasting impact of our class on Tech’s strong legacy. The gift funds a commemorative tree and bench and ensures proper maintenance of both as long as practicable.
Dear Friends,
Georgia Tech’s Homecoming and Reunion Weekend is November 7–9, 2024. This is a very special event for the Class of 1999 as we will celebrate our first class reunion. An important part of Tech’s Reunion tradition is the opportunity to mark the occasion by leaving a class footprint. In addition to our class party on Friday night, November 8, our class gift will be an important part of our milestone reunion experience.
Our Reunion Committee has set class goals of securing gifts and commitments from the Class of 1999 during our reunion year. For our class legacy, we would like to support a Class of 1999 Tree and Bench. All we need is $10K to leave this campus footprint. And, once we’ve done that, let’s raise the bar and support our current and future Yellow Jackets by supporting the Class of 1999 Scholarship Fund for students with low or limited income. While every dollar counts to help out fellow Jackets, if we collectively raise $100,000, we will be able to endow a Class of 1999 Scholarship in perpetuity.
We are excited to share that the Scholarship Sprint Challenge has been extended to December 31, 2024. This challenge is for new donors who support undergraduate scholarships for students with low or limited income. Outright gifts or pledges from $25,000 to $100,000 will be matched dollar for dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2 million. The sprint will ensure as much as $4 million is deployed immediately to provide critical support for incoming students in the Class of 2028 and beyond. Learn how you can participate or make a gift here.
But most of all, we want to encourage your participation to give back in any form to the Institute that has opened so many doors for us. All gifts and pledges made to Georgia Tech during the reunion year will count toward this goal: Roll Call; Alexander-Tharpe annual funds and/or A-T life memberships; special designated gifts to your school or college; and deferred gifts such as bequests, trusts, and retirement accounts. Gifts of cash, stock, or real estate can be used to fulfill your pledge. All pledge commitments may be fulfilled over a period of five years.
We appreciate gifts or pledges of any size as they bring us closer to reaching our goals, and they will also be counted toward the goals for Transforming Tomorrow: The Campaign for Georgia Tech, the Institute’s more than $2 billion comprehensive campaign.
Please join all committee members in giving back to Georgia Tech in honor of our 25th Reunion. Click on the gift or pledge today link above or contact Stefanie Smith, director of Development for Reunion Giving, at 470.219.3401 or stefanie.smith@dev.gatech.edu.
